As a woman who spent most of her life single before getting married at 51, may I suggest you treat the old "Why is someone like you still single?" question as a compliment rather than a put-down or jab? You're attractive, and it's a well-intended question.
"Are you single" and "Are you available" are two different questions. I was single, but sometimes I wasn't available--mostly after breakups when I needed to heal, not immediately jump back into the dating pool. If you're "available," you're open to being fixed-up, or meeting someone IRL. That's just my take.
