Excellent take, Victoria. I'm old enough to know dating before apps. The selfishness, fear, and vulnerability you speak of have always existed — they came with the old-school romance territory. It's technology, on the other hand, that will be the ruination of love. No one will ever get to the relationship stage if they're constantly dismissing/commodifying/dehumanizing each other. We didn't have these problems pre-digital dating. There seemed to be more compassion and acceptance, and WAY more accountability. Entitlement seems to be a new phenomenon with young singles these days. Back in the day, we had to make an effort to find and keep love.
