Have we become such an overly sensitive and fragile society that people can't even ask mundane questions like this anymore? Come on, people. It's not the questions that bother you, it's your insecurity or self-consciousness about your answers. The questions aren't demeaning; they're not misogynistic, but you're choosing to interpret them that way. No one is disrespecting you by asking if you're you're married, they're just curious! Geez!

Want to talk about a question that comes off basic and offensive? Asking an overweight woman if she's pregnant.
