I got married at 51, and as much as I enjoyed being single, I'm not ashamed to admit I love being married. I have a partner, a best friend, a lover, and a sounding board. I don't need his permission to do anything, but I appreciate his blessings and support. I'm quite capable of making my own decisions and calling my own shots, but I value his perspective and advice.
I don't think there's anything wrong in looking to your spouse for input, it's what couples do, and it's lovely. It's called having each other's back.
There is no power or control in this relationship, just mutual respect, collaboration, independence, and the freedom to be who we want to be.
We work well as a team, and that's what a good marriage is all about. I'm grateful to have this experience after being alone for so long.
