I'm going to blame most of this modern dating crisis on dating apps, a toxic cesspool of bad behavior and contagious mistreatment. Dating before apps was always a bit challenging, but now it's dehumanizing--and the pain inflicted spreads. The whole premise of online dating was to bring people together, and it does for a few, mainly though it repels, angers, and embitters. Apps (and the decline of social etiquette in general) got us into this mess, a return to IRL dating and more civility will get us out.
