It boggles the mind that dating has become so angst-ridden that people have to take breaks from it.
When I was single (before dating apps), we never knew when our next date was going to be, so we appreciated people more. We didn't have the luxury of of having thousands of options at our fingertips, and dates weren't lined up like planes on a runway.
We just put ourselves out there and hoped for the best. If we met someone nice, we hung in there for a minute to see where it went, instead of blowing someone off for nothing. And at no time did anyone ever get so burned that they had to quit--we wish we were dating so much that we burned out!
