The problem with not taking responsibility for one’s actions is that it leads to victim mentality.

I was single till I was 50, and squandered a lot of those years by picking the wrong people and relationships. No one held a gun to my head and forced me, I had free will and total agency. Yes it was their fault for being jerks, but it was my fault for continuing to pick them. I was the common denominator, and take full responsibility.
